Saving the planet one ream of paper at a time

We all know what it’s like. We know we should recycle our glass, our plastic, our paper. We know that the Earth is in trouble and we want to help – but busy schedules, crazy deadlines, family and friend commitments take priority and as we are throwing away that empty glass bottle or another sheet of paper that was needlessly doodled on, you do feel a pang of guilt. But you tell yourself, I’ll start tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll buy the different recycling bins for different products. I’ll stop leaving the tap running when I brush my teeth, I’ll walk to the shops instead of driving the few hundred metres (something I’m guilty of – I like to tell myself it’s because our cat would follow me and that would put her in danger on a really busy road, but if I’m completely honest, and I do promise to be so – it’s just an excuse and I’m too lazy to walk in the cold). No judging people, we’ve all got issues!

However, in an attempt to make for a happier future for both you and the Earth, we have found a solution to alleviate some of that environmental non-compliance guilt. And it’s really easy, in fact all you have to do is drop us an email or give us a call and we’ll take care of it. I’m talking about using 100% recycled A4 office paper. There are two products that we supply that are completely environmentally friendly and have, in fact, been made from 100% post-consumer waste. Meaning that not a single tree was harmed in the making of the paper. It comes in two variations: TrendWhite which is an off white paper with a very warm and inviting aura and EvolutionWhite which is whiter in colour and more closely resembles the colour of standard office paper. EvolutionWhite is a good option if you need to stay with white white paper but still would like to do your bit for the environment.

Both products are a little more expensive than conventional office paper brands, but those don’t help the environment and besides, what’s a few Rands between friends and trees? Imagine printing every sheet of paper without any guilt and without worrying about the fact that we are fast running out of resources. What bliss! A clear social and environmental conscious! Come on, you know you want one.

Green is the new black. If you’re interested let us know and we’ll bring you some samples, show you what it can do and even introduce you to other environmentally friendly papers so that we can indeed, collectively, save the planet one ream of paper at a time!

Understanding dpi – Great article from iStockphoto

Quoted from iStockphoto email:

You’re into design, so you probably know that high resolution means 300 dpi, right? Except that isn’t true.

To say dpi is an area of confusion for iStock customers would be a gross understatement. According to our support team, it is the area of confusion. But don’t feel bad, we even got an email from a designer who literally wrote the book (well, a book) on Photoshop, and they also had it wrong.

So we’ve decided to set the record straight! Dots per inch is not the same as total pixels, and total pixels is what matters when you’re talking about high resolution.

Still confused? Or maybe you just don’t believe us. Well, we’re not kidding. Check out this month’s tip and learn everything you need to know about dpi and image resolution, including how to turn a 72 dpi image into a 300 dpi image without losing quality and how to find the right size image for your needs on our site.
